What are dental implants?
Dental implants are the modern alternative to bridgework, partials, and dentures. A dental implant has two parts: the small titanium post that acts as a tooth root and the restoration (crown) secured to the post. Dr. Kavianpour can replace a few teeth with individual implants or several teeth with an implant-supported bridge, partial, or denture.
How are dental implants placed?
Dr. Kavianpour will work with a trusted oral surgeon throughout your dental implant procedure. The specialist will place a small titanium post in the socket left by your missing tooth. Your jawbone will naturally bond to the implant post in a process known as osseointegration. While we're waiting for the dental implant site to heal, Dr. Kavianpour will provide you with a temporary restoration so you can eat and talk comfortably. When the implant is secure, Dr. Kavianpour will attach your crown. For a bridge, partial, or denture, multiple implant posts are required.
Are dental implants right for me?
Because surgery is involved, a dental implant candidate must be in good health. Patients must also have healthy gums and adequate bone structure. Denture wearers who want to eliminate slippage and the need for adhesives are often great candidates for dental implants. Dr. Kavianpour will carefully evaluate your oral status and medical history to determine if dental implants are right for you.
